Press Release: Valentin Melik is Coming to Town Oct. 3, 2005 A twenty-one year old painter, Valentin Melik, would like to invite the public to his exhibition at Canisius College on Oct. 7, at 5 p.m. Valentin will be displaying his latest works to Buffalo’s audience, and educate to the possibilities of classical art. All are welcome. Valentin has an impressive list of achievements for an artist of his age. Valentin Melik is a junior at the Russian Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. He mounted his first solo show at the Arts Council in Buffalo and Erie County in 2002, when he was just 18. His art also provided a refreshing backdrop for Kissling Interest’s Christmas party that year. Valentin’s art became one of the cornerstones at Hus Var Fine Art’s grand opening in 2003. This year, Valentin collaborated with other artist to complete several mosaic medallions for a new subway station in St. Petersburg, Russia, under the direction of the city’s leading artist. Valentin successfully unites classical traditions, realism, contemporary tendencies in design, abstract thought, and wraps them in a cloak of emotional energy in his oil paintings. He will display several portraits, still-lifes, and figure studies. His portrait of “Julie” entered the National Portrait Gallery’s Portrait Competition this summer. Come see this up and coming artist’s work on display at
Canisius College Mary and Lou Vogt Gallery from Oct. 7 to Nov. 3 or on
the web at www.valentinmelik.com. ###
